Sun, sun, sun, here it comes....

During September and early October the solar PV array has been installed on the south aisle roof, ready to collect lots of glorious sun energy. In the photo gallery you can see different phases of the construction, including the lead cased mounts, the racks, installed panels and the inverter. The supports were manufactured by Ellis & C. and the panels and cabling by the wonderful local firm GLO Renewables. Our aim is to join the Totnes Local Energy Club so we can export surplus summer power to the town but also draw on local renewables like the hydro in the winter. This is all part of our shift to being a carbon zero building and supporting local energy generation. Also some shots of the new electrics in the tower. If you look closely at the last photo showing the new distribution board you can see, down in the ground, an intact grave cover, dating from the late 1600’s!

We have been seriously delayed by the inability to locate the main power cable to the front of the building and it looks like we are going to have to excavate into the pavement just outside the boundary wall towards the end of November in order to connect to that.
